Indian Film Festival opens in Jeonju


The Embassy of India & the Indian Cultural Centre (ICC) in association with the Jeonju City administration is organizing Indian Film Festival (IFF) from March 24-26, 2015 at the Grand Hall of HaksulMunhwa Bldg., Jeonbuk University. The festival has been organizing with the support of Department of Indian Films and Indian Tourism Organization, EROS International India and a host of other organizations. Similar film festival has been organized successfully in Busan, Incheon, Daegu, Jeju, Yeosu,Suncheon& Seoul.

2. The opening ceremony of the Indian Film Festival was held on March 24, 2015in the presence of Governor of Jeollabuk-do Province, Mr. Ha-jin Song, President of Jeonbuk University, Mr. Nam-ho Lee, Mayor of Jeonju& Chairman of Jeonju Film Commission, Mr. Seung-soo Kim and theChargé d'affaires of India Upendra Singh Rawat.  Governor expressed his delight at holding of the first ever Indian Film Festival in Jeonju and hoped that the film festival would become an annual event.

3. In his address, Chargé d'affairesRawatthanked the Governor of Jeollabuk-do Province for his effort in organizing IFF in Jeonju. He expressed his hope that the event would further strengthen cultural engagement between the two countries. The opening ceremony was followed by enthusiastic dance and music performances by the Indian Dance Maestro from Indian Cultural Centre Seoul and Korean artists. More than 200 people attended the inaugural ceremony.

5. The keen interest towards Indian culture in Korea led to the setting up of the Indian Cultural Centre at Seoul in 2011 (http://indoculture.org/) and in Busan in 2013 (http://www.iccbs.or.kr). Both the Centers offer regular classes on yoga, dance and Hindi besides holding fortnightly events all across Korea, including film, culture and food festivals, cooking classes, exhibitions, music and dance programmes, quiz contests & workshops. All friends of India are invited to avail of facilities of ICC Seoul and Busan.
