INDIAN DELEGATION VISITS KOREAFOR THE STEERING COMMITTEE MEETING (SCM)

A three member delegation led by DrSudershan Kumar, Distinguished Scientist & Chief Controller of Research & Development, Project Coordination & Service Interaction (PC & SI) in the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO), under the Ministry of DefenceIndia,visited Seoul for the 3rdSCM on 09-10Mar 2015. The SCM is a regular dialogue; part of the agreement between the DRDO, Ministry of Defence in India and the Defence Acquisition and Program Administration (DAPA) in Korea that aims to promote cooperation andjointresearch & development in the field of defence.

The delegationaccompanied by Colonel Ajay Chandpuria, the Defence Attaché at the Embassy of India, helddetailed deliberations with DAPA, a number of one on one meetings with several key Korean defence, followed by several on-site visits.

The visit of the delegation assumes greater significance given recent thrust of the Government of India on modernization of ‘indigenous defence industry’ and the clarion call of the Indian Prime Minister Modi to ‘Make in India’.The high profile visit is also reflective of the close and ever increasing defence relations between India and Korea; also strategic partners since 2010. The year also features a number of multifaceted events being organized by the Indian Embassy and Indian Cultural Center(ICC) at Seoul across a host of major cities in Korea that aim to showcaseIndia’s rich and diverse cultural heritage through the medium of film and food festivals, cultural performances, exhibitions etc.
