You are probably aware of the withdrawal of the PIO (Persons of Indian Origin) Card scheme and subsequent merger the PIO card with OCI (Overseas Citizen of India) Card. As a result all PIO card holders were requested to apply for OCI card (ie to change their existing PIO card to OCI card), which also carries additional benefits including faster immigration clearance, access to consular services and entitlement to additional services in India. The replacement to OCI cards will be free of cost (other than postage and service charge wherever applicable). For the benefit of PIO card holders who have not yet applied for OCI cards, Government of India has extended the deadline for free replacement till 30.09.2015. You may therefore like to make use of the opportunity. May also like to see the attached circular for further information. You can apply for OCI Card at - https://passport.gov.in/oci/ However, all PIO cards will continue to be valid till further instructions from MHA.
