세종문화회관 인도페스티벌 개막 공연
2010년 1월 뉴델리에서 가진 만모한 싱 인도총리와 이명박 대통령의 정상회담에서 주요 합의사항 중 하나는 2011년을 한국과 인도의 해로 기념하는 것이었다. 양국의 정상은 우방국 간 대규모의 시너지효과를 인지하여 전략적 동반자관계를 맺기로 합의하였다. 2011년을 문화에 중점을 둔 해로 지정하고자 한 결정은 양국 국민 간의 신뢰와 친선을 바탕으로 양국의 깊은 역사적 관계에 대한 인식을 반영한 것이다.
두 정상의 바램을 이행하고자 주한인도대사관은 인도의 다채로운 다양성이 하나의 통합된 영혼을 상징하는 인도의 국조인 공작새를 마스코트로 한 ‘인도페스티벌’ 개막을 선언한다. 페스티벌 표제인 ‘나마스떼 코리아’ 또는 ‘안녕하세요 한국’은 친구의 성공을 축하하고 번영을 기원하는 인도 전통에 따라 우방국 대한민국의 성공과 번영을 의미한다.

페스티벌은 인도 중앙정부 장관급으로 인도의 대외 문화교류 증진을 맡고 있는 카란 싱 인도문화교류위원회 회장이 참석한 가운데 2011년 6월 30일 개막했다. 정병국 문화체육부장관이 행사에 주빈으로 참석하여 한국 국민을 대표해 인사를 전했다.
스칸드 타얄 주한인도대사를 포함해 수레쉬 고엘 인도문화교류위원회 국장, 외교 사절단, 한국정부 고위관료들이 귀빈으로 참석했다.

2011 인도페스티벌은 세종문화회관에서 인도 유명 무용가 란자나 고하르와 공연단이 최고 수준의 인도 전통과 현대예술의 메들리를 보여주는 한 시간 가량의 다채로운 음악과 춤의 공연으로 개막되었다. 페스티벌은 서울과 부산 등 기타 도시에서 6개월 가량 계속될 것이며 인도영화제, 불교 미술전, 노벨상 수상자 라빈드러나트 타고르의 회화전, ‘사리와의 로맨스’란 주제로 한 인도 전통의상 전시회, ‘푸네 하이웨이’ 인도 극단의 연극, 확대되는 한-인 관계 진전을 위한 한국과 인도 학자들의 의견 교환 및 토론을 위한 심포지움을 포함한다.

India supports re-election of UNSG Ban Ki Moon
In response to a question Indian Ministry of External Affairs Official Spokesperson Mr. Vishnu Prakash said,
“The Asian Group at the UN met in New York on 6th June 2011 and endorsed by acclamation the candidature of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon for a second term. India's Acting Permanent Representative, Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri, was present at the meeting and conveyed India's support in the matter. The Chair of the Asian Group is writing to the President of the General Assembly and the President of the Security Council, informing them of the decision of the group.”

인도의 ‘위대한 스승’ 타고르 흉상 서울시 종로구에 설치
한국이 독립하기 이미 수년 전에 문학적 천재이며 자유와 존엄의 옹호자였던 인도의 라빈드라나드 타고르는 1929년 그가 쓴 유명한 시 “동방의 등불”에서 한국은 머지않아 빛나는 별처럼 떠오를 것이라고 예언하였다. 2011년 위대한 시인의 탄생 150주년을 기념하고자 인도와 대한민국은 서울의 문화 중심지인 대학로에 타고르 청동 흉상을 설치한다. 인도 조각가 구아탐 팔이 섬세하게 조각한 약 1.2 미터 크기의 금속 작품은 인도문화교류위원회(ICCR), 인도정부와 인도국민이 한국에 기증한 것이다.
오늘 제막식에는 세계 최대 민주주의 국가인 인도하원의장 메이라 쿠마르, 박희태 국회의장, 케이 라만 칸 인도상원부의장, 모철민 문화체육관광부 제1차관, 김영종 종로구청장, 스칸드 타얄 주한인도대사가 참석했다. 한인문화연구원 김양식원장은 서정적인 시집 ‘기탄잘리’(신에게 바치는 송가)로 1913년 아시아 최초로 노벨상을 수상한 타고르와 그의 작품 번역의 헌신적인 공로를 인정받아 2002년 인도정부로부터 시민훈장 ‘파드마쉬리’를 수여 받았다.
인도하원의장은 타고르를 추모하고 한-인도 전략적 동반자관계의 심화와 확대의 의미로 서울시에 청동 조각상을 설치하자고 제의한 대한민국 이명박 대통령과 대한민국정부에 감사의 뜻을 전한다.
인도는 경제, 정치 분야에서 대한민국이 이룬 놀랄만한 발전에 경의를 표하며 타고르의 선견지명과 예지를 실현시킨 한국과의 결속을 새로이 다지고자 한다. 마하트마 간디와 함께 ‘위대한 스승’, ‘존경 받는 스승’으로 불리는 타고르는 이제 한국에 석재와 금속에 새겨져 한국과 한국민을 향한 그의 사랑과 찬양의 영원한 상징이 될 것이며 지나가는 모들 이들에게 영원히 한-인도 우정을 상기하게 할 것이다. 동방의 등불

Science and Technology Minister visit
1. His Excellency Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Minister of Science and Technology, Earth Sciences and Parliamentary Affairs of the Republic of India, paid an Official Visit to the Republic of Korea on May 2-6, 2011 on the invitation of His Excellency Mr. Ju-Ho Lee, Minister of Education, Science & Technology of the Republic of Korea.
2. H.E. Minister Bansal, and his delegation visited Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology (KRIBB), Korea Innovation Cluster Foundation (KICF), Advanced Automotive Research Center, and Seoul National University (SNU), interacting with Korean scientists.
3. The 1st India-Korea Science & Technology Ministerial Steering Committee Meeting was held in Korea on May 4th, 2011. The two Honorable Ministers led their respective delegations.
4. The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere and both the Ministers shared their views on India-Korea relations in Science & Technology.
5. H.E. Mr. Pawan Kumar Bansal expressed sincere thanks to H.E. Mr. Ju-Ho Lee and the Korean delegation for the warm reception and hospitality accorded to him and to the Indian delegation during their visit to Korea.
6. The two Ministers exchanged views on the recent S&T policy trends and recognized the importance of further strengthening cooperation in the field of Science & Technology between the two countries. They welcomed the outcome of the 4th Meeting of the Joint Committee on Science & Technology held in Seoul on May 2, 2011 and endorsed the decisions made by the Joint Committee.
7. The following annual allocation of Joint R&D Fund, which had been secured in accordance with the Korea-India Summit in 2010, was agreed on by the two sides:
- 80% of the Joint Fund on each side for joint projects;
- 10% of the Joint Fund for workshops; and
- 10% of the Joint Fund for reciprocal human resource exchanges in science and technology.
8. It was noted with satisfaction that a large number of proposals (129) were received by both countries in response to the Joint Call for Proposals made in January 2011, and 15 projects have been jointly agreed on for support.
9. The two Ministers agreed to launch an exchange program for those undergoing Masters in engineering and medical sciences, Ph.D. Students, Faculty and Scientists, in the mutually agreed nine areas specified in POC to enhance the research capacity and results of S&T. The exchange programme is expected to commence in the later half of 2011. The two sides also agreed to discuss later the details related to the funding amount, scale, and period.
10. Both the Ministers agreed on the need to promote human resource exchange and joint research in promising next-generation S&T fields, through an MOU for cooperation between KIST and DST. An MOU was signed between KIST and DST in the presence of the two Ministers.
11. Both sides agreed to develop mega research programme in mutually identified technology areas of importance to the two countries such as low grade coal based energy, biomass, nano science and technology, information technology, etc.
12. The two Ministers agreed to launch a new Programme “India-Korea Great Innovation S&T Challenge”. The first Contest would be organized in India in 2012.
13. Both the Ministers noted with satisfaction the organization of first Indo-Korean Workshop on “Energy & Environment” on 4th May 2011 in Seoul. It was agreed to organize two workshops in the areas of “Chemistry & Biochemistry Technology” in the 2nd half of 2011 and “Health & Medical Science” in the 1st half of 2012, both in India.
14. Both the Ministers agreed that the next Ministerial Steering Committee Meeting will be held in India in 2012, and every two years thereafter alternately in Korea and in India. It was also agreed that the next Ministerial Meeting will be preceded by the 5th S&T Joint Committee Meeting.

Air India update May 3, 2011
Despite a section of pilots striking work and disrupting its flight operations, Air India has scheduled to operate 106 flights on the domestic sectors per day as part of the contingency schedule, for the next few days. These include operation of flights by Alliance Air, additional flights operated with wide bodied B777 & B747 and Air India Express B737 aircraft, in addition to the regular Airbus flights, as against a normal operation of about 320 flights. The curtailed operations schedule till 6 May has been finalised and put on the website.
ALL its 45 daily flights on the long haul routes to the United States, United Kingdom, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, Korea continue to operate NORMALLY and AS PER SCHEDULE. Air India’s subsidiaries, Air India Express operated 72 flights and Alliance Air – 32 flights, also on schedule. Air India has approximately 29000 seats on offer on these services.
On the domestic sector, 90% of flights have been curtailed and 40 domestic flights scheduled out of Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai and other airports have operated successfully.
Air India continues to take necessary steps to minimize the inconvenience caused due to the strike to its passengers. The number of floor walkers at major airports and Call Centers have been increased. Air India is also transferring the stranded passengers to flights of other airlines.

Press release for IT forum
The Embassy of India in Seoul, in coordination with the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ICCK), organized a Forum on India-Korea Information Technology Partnership for Global Success on 14 March 2011. The Forum received an enthusiastic response from the Korean industry and businesses, not only representing the IT sector, but from the entire spectrum of the Korean economic activity. 150 Korean entrepreneurs and businessmen from diverse fields including shipping, automobiles, engineering, construction, electronics, communications, computer hardware, tourism, banking & financial services, consultancy services, multimedia services etc., participated in the Forum thereby endorsing the high billing that the Indian IT programmes and solutions enjoy world-wide as flexible, high-quality and highly integrated services across the value chain.
The Forum was addressed by the Indian Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, Mr. Skand R. Tayal, Dr. Kim J. Shik, Chairman of Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, Director from the Korean Ministry of Knowledge Economy, and IT experts from India and abroad. In his Key Note speech Mr. Som Mittal, President of National Association of Software and Service Companies (NASSCOM) shared his insights on how India’s IT solutions are helping and adding significant value to businesses globally. India’s Information Technology companies at present are operating from 66 countries with about 520 delivery centers. Recognizing the robustness of the Korean industry, Mr. Mittal emphasized how a win-win strategic partnership could be built between Korean and Indian economies leveraging the versatility, flexibility, domain-expertise and innovation capabilities of Indian IT-BPO industry.
Prominent speakers at the Forum included Cindy Shin, Managing Director of Nielson Company for Korea and Japan; Suneet Puri of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS); Shashidhara Dongre of L&T Infotech; K. Bittiananda of WIPRO; Sejoon Ahn of Mahindra Satyam. TCS, L&T Infotech, WIPRO and Mahindra Satyam are all Indian IT multinationals and have branches in ROK. Nielson Company is a global client of TCS and is world’s leading provider of marketing information. Cindy Shin explored how Nielson’s multinational operations attained significant cost benefit and value addition by partnering with the Indian IT Services provider, TCS, and how Indian companies are capable of servicing global operations because of their wider reach and presence in a variety of sectors.
The Forum would open up new opportunities for India’s IT companies to enhance their footprint in Korea. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the close strategic partnership provide a positive and supportive environment for more intense collaboration in the IT sector between the two countries.
The theme presented at the Forum was that the coming together of the advanced Korean industry and businesses, and the Indian IT talent, can compete with the best successfully.
The intense discussions in the afternoon spanning four hours were followed by a cultural programme that included an Indian Yoga dance performed by Korean ladies, and a dinner.

한-인도 양국의 관계는 빠르게 성장하고 있으며 새로운 분야로 다각화하고 있다. 양국 국민의 견고한 친선관계와 성숙한 정치적 리더십을 바탕으로 G20의 역동적인 두 국가 사이의 관계는 지난 몇 년간 다차원적인 관계로 발전하였다. 양국의 경제 협력이 광범위하고 심화됨에 따라 2010년 포괄적 경제동반자협정(CEPA)이 발효되었다. 지난해 양국 무역은 45% 증가하여 170억 달러에 이르렀고 양국의 투자도 성장세를 보이고 있다. 그러나 아시아와 세계의 경제를 이끌고 2조 달러에 달하는 경제규모에 비해 양국의 경제관계는 기대에 못 미치고 있다. 한-인 경제 파트너십은 아시아 통합에 크게 기여할 수 있는 역량을 가지고 있다. 따라서 양국 경제가 시너지를 창출하고 모든 분야에서 상호 이득이 되는 비즈니스 환경을 만드는 것이 중요하다.

인도국방장관 방한
한국을 공식 방문 중인 AK 안토니 인도 국방부 장관은 오늘 오후 이명박 대통령을 만나 지난 1월 이명박 대통령의 인도 국빈방문 이후 양국은 전략적 동반자이며 국방, 무역, 과학연구 등 여러 분야에서 양국관계는 놀랄 만큼 눈부신 탄력을 받았다고 언급하였다. 이대통령과 안토니 장관은 한국과 인도는 공동의 가치와 지역 및 세계 안보 문제에 대해 공통의 이해를 공유한다고 언급하였다.
오늘 오전 안토니 장관은 김태영 국방부장관과 다방면에 걸쳐 토론을 하였으며 특히 양국의 국방협력에 초점을 맞추었다. 이번 방문은 양국간 국방협력과 국방 연구개발 협력에 관한 두 개의 양해각서를 체결함으로써 매우 생산적이었다. 양해각서는 양국 군의 관계 강화와 미래의 교류 증진을 위한 기틀을 마련하는데 목적이 있다.
또한 안토니 장관은 유명환 외교통상부 장관과 만나 양국의 긴밀한 협력과 공유비전에 만족감을 표시했다. 두 장관은 해적퇴치, 재난구호, 기타 상호 이익이 되는 분야에 대해 의견을 교환하였다.
국방부장관의 이번 방문은 많은 생산적인 토론을 이끌어 냈으며 양국 국방부 간 더욱 강력한 미래 관계를 위한 기틀을 마련하였다.

6th meeting of India ROK Joint Commission

2. The Joint Commission reviewed all aspects of India ROK bilateral relations particularly developments since the landmark state visit to India of President Lee Myung-bak in January 2010. The two Ministers noted with satisfaction that the progress achieved in bilateral ties over the past few years resulted in its elevation to a Strategic Partnership. It was agreed that more high level visits between the two countries would be encouraged. The importance of exchanges and contacts between the Parliaments of the two countries were discussed.
3. EAM stressed that economic cooperation is the bedrock of India - ROK bilateral relations. The implementation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) since January 1, 2010 was reviewed by the Ministers. Bilateral trade has jumped by a robust 70% in the first 4 months of the year. This trend is expected to continue over the coming months, providing confidence that the trade target of US $ 30 billion by 2014 can be achieved. In this context, EAM pointed out the need for expanded but balanced trade growth and made a strong case for greater access to the Korean market for Indian pharmaceuticals, IT enabled services and agro-products.
4. The two Ministers discussed ways to enhance bilateral defence and security cooperation including through expanded naval cooperation in anti-piracy operations in the Indian Ocean. EAM stressed the potential for expanded cooperation in defence production including through transfer of technology, joint ventures and co-production. The visit of the Defence Minister of India to ROK later this year is expected to further boost such cooperation. EAM also met with ROK Defense Minister Kim Tae-young later in the day.
5. Noting that the two sides had already exchanged drafts of an Inter Governmental Agreement on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy, the two Ministers agreed to launch negotiations between the two countries, at an early date, for the conclusion of such an Agreement.
6. EAM underscored the importance of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, including through the launch of Korean satellites on Indian launch vehicles.
7. EAM proposed that the establishment of the dedicated Joint Science & Technology Fund of US $ 10 million (with a contribution of US $ 5 million by each side) to promote joint research between scientists and technologists of the two countries be expedited. In this context, he invited the Korean Minister for Education, Science and Technology to visit India soon.
8. The Joint Commission discussed details of the Year of India in Korea and the Year of Korea in India in 2011, including cooperation in showcasing Indian culture and arts in Korea. EAM suggested the installation of a bust of Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore at a prominent location in Seoul in 2011, the 150th birth anniversary of the poet. Tagore is well known in Korea after having described it as the Lamp of the East in one of his poems.

10. Addressing a large gathering of eminent scholars, researchers and diplomats at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS), EAM suggested a 6-pronged strategy for strengthening the India - ROK Strategic Partnership for the 21st Century. The speech was extremely well received by the Korean audience.

11. Both sides agreed that an open and inclusive Asian regional architecture based on the principles of mutual benefit and shared opportunity is in the interest of both countries. They agreed to work closely towards this goal within the East Asia Summit framework. The Indian side welcomed the fact that the G20 Summit will be held in Seoul, RoK, in November 2010.
12. The following documents were signed during the visit:
(i) MoU between the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises of India and the Small and Medium Business Administration of the RoK on Cooperation in the field of Small and Medium Enterprises.
(ii) MoU for Cooperation between ICCR and Korea Foundation.
(iii) MoU for Cooperation between Indian Council for World Affairs (ICWA) and the Institute for Foreign Affairs and National Security (IFANS) of the RoK.
13. The Minister of External Affairs of India invited the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the RoK to pay an official visit to India at a mutually convenient time in 2011 for the 7th Joint Commission Meeting. The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of the RoK accepted the invitation.

Call by EAM on President of ROK

External Affairs Minister Shri S.M. Krishna commenced his official visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK) earlier today with a call on the President H.E. Lee Myung-bak at the Blue House, the official residence of the President. The constructive and fruitful meeting, in a warm and cordial atmosphere, lasted over 40 minutes.
President Lee fondly recalled his landmark visit to India in January this year, as the chief guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations. He appreciated EAM’s visit to Seoul for the 6th Joint Commission meeting (JCM), soon after his own, which would give further impetus to bilateral relations and the initiatives announced during his visit to India.
President Lee and EAM underscored the importance of increasing people-to-people exchanges to bolster the Strategic Partnership between the two countries including in the fields of education, tourism and youth. EAM suggested that a bust of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore, who had described Korea as the “Lamp of the East” be installed at a prominent location in Seoul. Warming to the theme, President Lee said that he would make a strong recommendation to the concerned city authorities to identify a suitable location for installing the bust of Gurudev in 2011, the 150th birth anniversary of the poet laureate.

Referring to the MOU of cooperation, signed last January between the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Korean Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), EAM suggested that ROK satellites could be launched on Indian launch vehicles. President Lee agreed to consider the suggestion.
Later in the evening, EAM interacted with prominent members of the Indian Community. He apprised them about the Strategic Partnership between the two countries. Visit of External Affairs Minister to Republic of Korea
The External Affairs Minister, Shri S. M. Krishna, will pay an official visit to the Republic of Korea, June 17-19, 2010 at the invitation of H. E. Mr. Yu Myung-hwan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The two Ministers will co-chair the 6th Meeting of the India-ROK Joint Commission. EAM will also call on President Lee Myung-bak. He will deliver an address at the Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Security, Seoul.

인도 영어교사 한국에서 근무한다.
2010년 1월1일자로 한국과 인도의 CEPA협정이 발효됨에 따라 한국과 인도의 새로운 교육 협력 관계가 이루어졌다. 이에 따라 인도 영어교사를 한국의 공립학교에 영어보조교사로 초청하게 된 것이다.
지금까지 한국에서는 학생 및 교사의 영어회화능력 향상을 위해 영어를 모국어로 사용하는 7개국(미국, 캐나다. 영국, 아일랜드, 호주, 뉴질랜드 및 남아공)으로부터 원어민 영어보조교사 를 선발하였으나, 금년부터는 인도영어교사도 선발하여 배치할 예정이다.
한국 교육과학기술부에서는 국립국제교육원의 EPIK(English Program in Korea)팀과 인도의 EdCIL을 통하여 인도영어교사를 선발할 계획이며, 이를 위하여 지난 5월25일 국립국제교육원과 EdCIL은 MOU 체결로 협력 관계를 수립하였다.
EPIK은 1995년 시작된 원어민 영어보조교사 선발 사업이며, 국립국제교육원은 교육과학기술부 직속 국가기관으로 EPIK팀은 전국 시도교육청 원어민 영어보조교사 사업 전문 센터이다. EPIK팀에서는 금년도 시범적으로 인도영어교사 12명을 선발하여 10개 시도교육청에 배치하여 그 효과를 분석한 후, 향후 인도영어교사 수를 확대 선발할 계획이다.
지원 자격은 영어교사 자격증을 소지하고 북미식 영어를 유창하게 구사할 수 있는 인도 국민이며, 본 선발과정 합격자는 입국 전 15차시의 온라인 오리엔테이션 후 8월 중순 한국에 입국하여 9일 간의 오리엔테이션을 통하여 한국의 문화, 생활 및 교육에 관한 기본적인 연수를 받고 9월1일부터 학교에서 근무하게 된다. 지원 절차, 서류 및 처후에 관한 자세한 사항은 EdCIL 홈페이지를 참고하시기 바란다.

Sinking of ROK Frigate 'Cheonan'
The Government of the Republic of Korea has shared with us the report of the Joint Civilian-Military Investigation Group established to inquire into the causes of the sinking of Frigate 'Cheonan' on 26 March 2010.
We condemn the incident and condole with the Republic of Korea on the tragic loss of life. India appreciates the maturity and restraint with which the Republic of Korea has been handling the issue with a view to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Launch of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea
India-Republic of Korea bilateral relations have entered a vibrant and dynamic phase in the recent years. Trade and Investment flows have been at the core of the expanding partnership. A bilateral Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was signed in August 2009 to accelerate these flows. CEPA has become operational from 1st January, 2010 and is expected to herald a new era in the growth and development of the bilateral ties.
Hon’ble President Lee Myung-bak, accompanied by a high-level delegation, would pay a State visit to India during 24-27 January, 2010. He would discuss with the Indian leadership the ways to take the bilateral partnership to a higher level. He would also be the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations this year.
Against this background, the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ICCK) was launched on 19th January, 2010 in Seoul. The ICCK would be a forum to network and facilitate business linkages between the two countries. President and CEO of Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Dr. Jong S. Kim would be the Chairman of the ICCK. Hon’ble Minister of Strategy and Finance, H.E. Mr. Yoon Jeung-hyun, was the Chief Guest at the ceremonial launch of the ICCK. Captains of the business and industry, senior Government dignitaries, Leaders of the foreign Chambers in Korea, Ambassadors and other leading lights attended this historic event.
Speaking on the occasion, H.E. Mr. Yoon Jeung-hyun congratulated the gathering on the launch of the Indian Chamber, hoped that the Chamber would be one more vehicle for strengthening India-Republic of Korea bilateral economic and commercial ties and offered to support efforts of the business and industry in this direction. Ambassador Tayal, citing the opportunities opened up by CEPA, called on the business and industry to look at India’s strengths in IT, Pharmaceuticals services and other areas so that CEPA could create a balanced and sustainable growth of trade and investment for mutual benefit.

Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention 2010
The next Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention will be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 07-09 January 2010.
The eighth edition of this flagship event of the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs has been differently structured this time around with a view to provide the delegates with an opportunity to interact with:
(i) Cabinet Ministers from India
(ii) PIO Ministers/dignitaries from other countries
(iii) State Chief Ministers
PBD-2010 will also see the launching of an annual Lecture series “PBD Oration” under the overarching theme of ‘India and its Diaspora: Everlasting Bonds of Togetherness’. The first in this lecture series will be delivered by Prof. Jagdish Bhagwati, an eminent Person of Indian Origin (PIO).
The convention will have four concurrent sessions on: ‘Investment’, ‘Knowledge’, ‘Philanthropy’ and ‘Gender Issues’.
Seminars on ‘Nano-Technology’ and ‘property-rated issues’ of NRIs/PIOs are also to be held.
The high-profile convention will be inaugurated by the Prime Minister of India on January 8, 2010. President of India will deliver the valedictory address on January 9, 2010 and would confer Pravasi Bharathiya Samman Awards for 2010.
The Convention is being organized by the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs (MOIA), in partnership with the Government of NCT of Delhi. 포괄적 경제동반자 협정 공식 서명
인도는 오늘 한국과 포괄적 경제 동반자협정에 공식 서명하였다. 인도를 대표하여 아난드 샤르마 통상 산업부 장관과 한국측 대표 김종훈 통상교섭본부장이 서울에서 협정에 서명했다. 이는 2005년 싱가포르와의 첫 포괄적 협정 체결 이후 인도가 타 국가와 맺은 두 번째 포괄적 협정이다. 또한 인도가 OECD 국가와 맺은 첫 번째 자유무역 협정이다. 포괄적 경제동반자협정은 자유무역협정보다 포괄적 성격을 지닌 것으로 상품교역뿐만 아니라 양국 공동이익 분야에서 투자, 서비스, 상호 협력을 포함한다.
한 인도 CEPA협정에 따라, 인도가 한국에 수출하는 품목 중 93%, 한국이 인도에 수출하는 품목 중 85%의 관세가 단계적으로 인하 또는 철폐된다. 양국은 서비스 협정을 통해 서비스 분야 전문인력의 상호 자유로운 이동을 명시함에 따라 서비스교역도 확대 될 것으로 예상된다. 양측은 협정에서 특별 분야를 제외하는 모든 분야에서 상호 투자를 활성화 시키기 위해 양국 투자자들에게 자국 투자자들과 동등한 대우를 할 것을 약속했다.
포괄적 경제동반자협정은 한국 국회에서 비준안이 통과 된 후 발효될 것이며 양국은 공식 발효를 공지할 것이다.

한국 외교통상부 장관 인도 공식방문
유명환 외교통상부 장관은 2009년 6월 23일 인도를 공식방문 하였다. 유명환 외교통상부 장관은 인도 외교부 장관과 외교장관회담을 가졌다. 유장관은 인도총리를 예방하고 인도 통상산업부 장관과 단독 회담을 가졌다.
2. 공식회담에서 양국 외무부장관은 양국관계가 제반 분야에서 발전해 온 것을 평가했다. 양측은 2004년 양국이 구축한 평화와 번영을 위한 장기적 협력 동반자관계를 한 차원 더 높여나가겠다는 입장을 표명하였다.
3. 양국 장관은 고위인사 교류의 중요성과 양국에 의해 구축된 공식 회담 메커니즘이 정기적으로 지속되어야 한다는 것에 인식을 같이 했다. 양국 장관은 또한 양국의 경제, 통상관계에 대해 논의하고 양국의 경제 파트너쉽 확대를 증진시킬 포괄적 경제동반자협정의 서명이 임박했다는 것에 만족을 표했다.
4. 유 장관은 지난해 세계적인 경기침체에도 불구하고 양국간 교역의 꾸준한 증가 (150억 달러, 한국관세청 통계)와 대 인도 투자를 목표하는 한국 기업의 증가에 대해 평가했다. 인도 외교부 장관은 한국의 대 인도투자에 대해 환영을 표했다. 인도장관은 인도정부가 한국기업들에게 친 투자 환경을 보장하는데 우선을 두고 있다는 입장을 전달했다. 또한 인도 외교장관은 이중과세방지협정 개정을 비롯한 협상 중인 기타 협정이 조속한 시일 내에 타결 되기를 희망했다. 또한 양국 장관은 민간항공, 해운, 에너지와 문화 분야를 비롯하여 양국의 실질적 협력을 강화하는 방안을 논의했다.
5. 양국 장관은 지역적, 세계적 문제의 상호 관심과 중요성에 대해 의견을 교환했다. 유장관은 한반도의 정세에 대해 인도장관에게 설명하고 양국장관은 북한이 6자회담에 복귀하는것이 중요하다는 점에 의견을 같이했다. 또한 크리시나 인도외교장관은 인도 주변국가의 정세에 대해 유장관에게 설명했다.
6. 유명환장관은 상호 편리한 시기에 인도외교장관이 한국을 방문할 수 있도록 초청했다. 방문 시기는 공식 외교 채널을 통해 조정될 것이다.

인도해군함대 한국방문
인도 해군함대 NIS Jyoti호가 2009년 4월 20~22일 부산에 친선 방문 한다. 1996년 취역한 INS Jyoti호는 함대 연료공급선으로 배수량 39,700톤의 인도해군 최대 함대이다.
부산방문 기간 동안 인도 함대는 한국 방문객들에게 개방되며 대한민국 해군과 친선 이벤트도 가질 예정이다.
