Persons Of Indian Origin (PIO) Card Scheme:

Person of Indian origin , not being a citizen of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, China,Nepal,Pakistan and Sri Lanka, are eligible to apply for PIO card, if :
  • the person at any time held an Indian Passport; or
  • the person or either of his/her parents or grand parents or great grand parents was born in,
    and was permanently resident in India .
  • The person is the spouse of a citizen of India or a person of Indian origin.

Note:

  PIO card holders shall not require a separate visa to visit India for 15 years, but they have to carry their vaild foreign passports along with the PIO Card.
Fees: 452,500 won for adults and 227,500 won for minors (Below 18 years of age)

Documents required :

  1. Indian passport/travel documents of the applicant or either of his/her parents or grandparents or great grandparents. Any other document satisfactorily proving the residence /nationality as Indian or nativity certificate (Click here to download) from concerned District Collectors/ District Magistrates in India

  3. Current passport in original with photocopies
  4. Alien Registration Card and Photocopy.
  5. Four recent photographs with light back ground

Benefits of PIO:

  1. A multiple entry, multi-purpose visa for visiting India.PIO Card itself is treated as a Visa
  2. No separate student/Employment/Business visa will be required for admission in colleges/institutions or taking up employment , business, etc in India
  3. Special counters for speedy immigration clearance at designated Immigration check posts
  4. Exemption from registration with the local police authorities for continuous stay upto 180 days in India
  5. Parity with Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) in respect of economic, financial and educational fields, except in relation to acquisition of agricultural or plantation properties
  6. PIO Card can be used as identity proof for applying for a (I)PAN Card (II) Driving License (III) Opening of Bank account in India, if the PIO Card holder resides in India
