A 19 member delegation from the National Defence College (NDC) India arrived at Seoul on 19 May, for a five day study tour to ROK. Led by its Commandant, Vice Admiral Sunil Lanba, Ati Vishisht Sewa Medal, the delegation comprises a senior faculty member and 17 other senior officers drawn from the Indian Armed Forces, Indian Administrative Service and Indian Police Service. It also includes a representative each of the armed forces of Japan, United Kingdom, Nepal and Egypt, all participants of a yearlong prestigious NDC course at New Delhi.

The program of the delegation includes courtesy call on, visits and briefings at the Ministry of National Defence & the Embassy of India at Seoul, national institutes like the Korea National Defence University & Korea National Diplomatic Academy and eminent think tanks, like the Korea Institute of Defence Analysis. The delegation will also travel to the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) and visit some important industrial establishments like the Hyundai Shipbuilding and Motor Car Companies, SK telecom and Samsung. It will be exposed to Korean culture and history through visits to a number of national institutes that include the National War Memorial of Korea and the National Museum.
3. This high profile visit, taking place in 2013 - the year that commemorates the 40th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and ROK - is reflective of the close and growing defence relations between the two countries that are also strategic partners since 2010. The year also features a number of multifaceted events being organized by the Indian Embassy and Indian Cultural Center at Seoul that aim to showcase India’s rich and diverse cultural heritage, through the medium of film festivals, cultural performances, exhibitions etc. India is also the guest of honor at this year’s Seoul International Book Fair in June.
